the following letter sparked a vicious and bloody battle between my roommmate and myself, and a feisty lil old lady we liked to refer to as “lucy”. it resulted in landing us both in an eviction and an 8 thousand dollar debt to a world-wide christian organization/corporation known as the international church of the four square gospel with interest accumulating as i type this:
Mrs. Lucinda Bayard
1005 Glendale Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90026
Dear Mrs. Bayard,
We have reason to believe that your recent demands hold no legal ground, and are completely unnecessary. We have heard and understand your concerns about the piano, and have done our best to assure you that there will be no problems for you or the other tenants. But despite your continuous threats of eviction, “company” letters, and forged legal documents, we cannot simply get rid of an expensive piece furniture, or any bit of personal property soley based on a fear that it might cause a disturbance, even though it has not yet.
A verbal agreement, which you may or may not deny, stated that the piano would be allowed for a two week trial basis. As long as it wasn’t played loudley, or after dark. This agreement was more than reasonable, and a compromise on our part. As of now, we will continue to live up to the conditions of this agreement, with respect to the other tenants and yourself. Tenants should feel free to approach us in respect to any specific problems. Neither of us ever signed a lease stating: “NO MUSICAL INSTRUCTMENTS”. It is apparent that the document was sloppily forged.
Our hope is to move on from this experience without further hard feelings and stress inducing threats. This country holds freedom in it’s highest regard, and provides laws to protect the opressed. It would be in both of our best intrests to avoid such procedures. However, our lawyer asks that any further correspondance on the matter be put into writing, signed and dated.
Respectfully,
Raymond Sanchez
